A LARGE RUSSIAN SILVER AND NIELLO MOUNTED KINDJAL, ASTRAKHAN, DATED 1866.  Of traditional form, the two-sided handle with polished shaped bone on one side and polished horn on the other. The pommel grip and throat with nielloed decorative devices and holding a long doubled edge blade with deep tapering fuller, and one side of the blade with traces of gold inlay. The leather-covered wood scabbard overlaid with an extensive silver nielloed covering of geometric and repeating floral designs, and with integral suspension loop on the side, and verso nielloed with a whimsical slithering snake. Overall length 22.75 inches (58 cm). (Unillustrated)
