A FRENCH FOR THE RUSSIAN MARKET SILVER-GILT AND CHASED DEMITASSE CUP SET AND TRAY, CIRCA 1880. The tray with scalloped reeded borders set with two substantial handles mounted with acanthus. The cavetto with oval floral-banded element in which is an engraved empty cartouche held admist a bouquet of chased flowers. The interior of tray engraved overall with a pattern of flower heads. Together with five silver-gilt matching cups each resting on a slightly flared ring foot, the sides similarly engraved with floral pattern, the rims banded in scrolling foliage, and each with a matching blank cartouche amidst a bouquet, and with harp-form handles. With French export marks circa 1879 and with Russian (Odessa) import marks for the same time period, and with 84 silver standard. Length of tray 11 inches (28 cm). Height of each cup 1.8 inches (4.6 cm). (Unillustrated)
