A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE DOSTOINO EST MOTHER OF GOD, MT. ATHOS, CIRCA 1890. This icon is based on the famous wonder-working image of the same name located on Mt. Athos. It depicts angels crowning the Mother of God who cradles the infant Christ holding a scroll which begins, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me…” The verso of icon stamped "A BLESSING FROM THE HOLY MOUNTAIN OF ATHOS RUSSIAN PANTELEMION MONASTERY IN WHICH THIS ICON WAS ALSO CONSECRATED." 8.8 inches x 7 inches (22.5 x 18 cm).
