A VERY FINE SILVER-GILT, ENAMELED, AND GEM SET CHALICE IN THE RENAISSANCE STYLE, POUSSIELGUE-RUSAND, PARIS, CIRCA 1925.  The six lobed base overall repoussed with scrolling foliage on a stippled ground and mounted with three opposing shield shaped elements with bell flowers and with two cloisonné enameled medallions, one depicting a bust profile of the Virgin and the other with a full length image of the Virgin, both bordered in seed pearls and embellished with diamonds. Additionally, the base set with a cross comprising 12 approximate .35 carat step cut sapphires and the cross end terminals set with three round cut diamonds. The squashed bulbous central node banded with diamonds and pearls and set with an approximate 3 carat intaglio cut cushion shaped sapphire displaying a bust portrait of Minerva and above, the cup similarly repoussed with scrolling foliage and set with seven applied lily form shield devices with moss green enameled fields and further mounted with a large waist-up image of Our Lady framed in filigree and set with diamonds and sapphires and below the rim a band of diamonds. Together with a probably later, silver-gilt paten displaying an engraved dedicatory inscription dated 1941 and contained in a velvet lined fitted octagonal polished wood case. Marked on base and cup. Height 9.25 inches (23.5cm). Total weight including paten 26 troy oz.
