A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE NATIVITY OF CHRIST, 18TH CENTURY. At center the Mother of God with the newborn infant Christ. At left the three Magi approach with gifts and on the right an angel of the Lord announces the good news to a shepherd. Lower right a midwife prepares to bathe the newborn Christ and at lower left the Devil, disguised as an old shepherd, tries to create doubt in the mind of Joseph as to the virginity of Mary. 17.1 inches x 17.75 inches (43.5 x 45 cm).
