A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE RESURRECTION AND DESCENT, MSTERA TRAINED PAINTER WORKING IN MOSCOW, CIRCA 1900. A finely painted icon depicting at top Christ above His empty tomb and below descending into Hades to release the righteous men and women of the Old Testament from bondage and around the borders various post-resurrection scenes. Clearly a Mstera trained artist of the type working at the popular studios in Moscow around the turn of the century. 12.25 x 10.5 inches (31 x 26.5 cm).
