A FINE NORWEGIAN EMPIRE MAHOGANY BOW FRONT FOUR-DRAW CHEST. The two bow front drawers with matched mahogany veneers below a convex faced drawer with divided compartments and sliding mahogany covers surmounted with a cove edged top. The lower most drawer with ogee front. Height 35.5 inches (90 cm). Width 31.75 inches (80.75 cm). Depth 18.5 inches (47 cm).

Originally from the collection of Josephine Bay Paul (1900-1962) who was a noted collector, financier, shipping executive, and philanthropist, purchased in Europe by her first husband Charles Ulrick Bay (d.1955), United States Ambassador to Norway from 1946 -1953, for use in decorating their vacation home, Hill Farm, in Pawling, New York, which was sold along with the above mentioned lot to friends Norman Vincent and Ruth Stafford Peale in the 1960s. This piece was donated by the Ruth Stafford Peale Estate to the current consignor, the Vesterheim American Norwegian Museum, after her death in 2008.
