A FINE JAPANESE MIXED METAL VASE WITH LACQUER MAKIE, MEIJI PERIOD. Of eight faceted shape, the bronze body with copper red lacquer shoulder and base framing eight makie lacquered panels, the lower portions in embossed grey colored steel and with four figural carp in coral red and ebony colored lacquer, the fourth, surmounting the waves, in burnished gilt. Signed with “Senpo” seal on verso. Height 8.5 inches (21.5 cm).
