A VERY FINE BRONZE NEO GOTHIC STYLE CRUCIFIX, JOHANNES C. SPOORENBERG, BELGIUM, CIRCA 1920.  At center a finely sculpted bronze figure of Christ the King, mounted on a finely modeled bronze cross with raised bevel borders. The terminals with exceedingly well sculpted relief symbols of the Four Evangelists, the background engraved with scrolling foliage, the borders with engraved circle pattern and above the head of Christ INRI. Verso with integral suspension device. The foot rest signed Spoorenberg. Exceptional! Height 23.6 inches (60 cm), width 16.3 inches (41.5 cm).

Johannes C. Spoorenberg (1885-1948) was a gold and silversmith who moved in 1906 to Belgium (Antwerp). His style was in the beginning neo gothic but evolved in the twenties to Art Deco.
