A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE ARCHANGEL MIKHAIL, 19TH CENTURY. A full length image of the Captain of the Heavenly Hosts, Mikhail is depicted here in Roman military attire, holding a shield and a fiery sword. He is rendered in the Western or Italianate style. The entire image overlaid with a substantial sliver repousse and chased riza with applied halo. Riza hallmarked Kaluga, dated 1886, Cyrillic makers mark N.N. and 84 standard. 12.5 inches x 10.5 inches (31.5cm x 26.5cm).
