A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY, 19TH CENTURY. Executed in the Italianate style, here Christ delivers a blessing with his right hand while his left hands rests on an orb, a borrowing from Western sacred art. The entire image overlaid with an ornate silver-gilt repousse and chased Baroque style riza with applied halo. Riza and halo hallmarked Moscow, dated 1845, Cyrillic makers mark G.Ye. and 84 standard. The upper corners with enameled title plaques displaying the standard Greek abbreviation for Jesus Christ. 10.5 inches x 9 inches (27cm x 23cm).
