A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE IMPERIAL RUSSIAN SILVERED AND GILT METAL CORONATION ALBUM, CIRCA 1855. The massive rectangular hinged album cover applied with a relief plaque at center depicting the Moscow Kremlin, resting upon an applied oak tree, and the branches decorated with the crests of all the Russian provinces. At the base of the tree the cypher of Tsar Alexander II composed of a rifle, cannon, sword and two pistols, resting against the tree trunk and further surrounded by flags, cannons and military trophies. Above the cypher is mounted an oval gilt relief portrait of Alexander II signed with the initials of, perhaps CB, and above which is applied a crown, set with faux gemstones. Displayed above the central plaque of the Moscow Kremlin is an anchor and further still the Imperial double headed eagle above which is mounted a crown set with paste stones. The back cover similarly decorated, and at the center a relief plaque depicting the coronation of Alexander II in the Uspensky Cathedral in Moscow, which took place on September 7, 1855. Immediately beneath the plaque on the trunk are set six oval Rostov enamel icons depicting; The Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Mary Magdalene, (center) The Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Constantine, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, The Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir, Saint Alexander Nevsky, and again Mary Magdalene. Above the central plaque depicting the coronation, a faux gemstone encrusted cross. And above further still an applied crown set with gemstones. The interior opening to reveal a glazed frame with decorative border mounted with a later facsimile printed image of Tsar Alexander II, and the opposing inside cover of padded white moirE silk. Apparently unmarked. 12.5 inches x 16.25 inches (31cm x 41.2cm).
