A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE SVYENSKAYA-PECHERSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD, CIRCA 1800. At center is the enthroned Mother of God with the infant Christ upon her lap. On the left the Venerable Saint Antoniy holds a prayer rope (chotki) and a scroll. On the right the Venerable Saint Feodosiy who also holds a scroll. The inscription along the top border identifies the subject as, The Image of the Most Holy Mother of God Kievo-Pecherskaya- not the normal title for this subject but rather a colloquial title. The image is overlaid with a silver repousse and chased riza with applied gilded silver haloes. Riza hallmarked Saint Petersburg, dated 1810, with assayers initials A.Ya. for Aleksandr Yaschenkov, and with 84 standard. 12.5 inches x 10.25 inches (31cm x 26.5cm).
