A COMPLEX RUSSIAN ICON OF SELECTED SAINTS, 19TH CENTURY. An interesting icon depicting 20 various images beginning at the top central section is the Deisis, Christ at center flanked by the Mother of God (left) and St. John the Forerunner (right). Immediately below are four images of wonder-working icons of the Mother of God. Clockwise from upper left they are, The Unburnt Thornbush Mother of God, the Tikhvin Mother of God, the Seeking of the Lost Mother of God, and the Soothe My Sorrows Mother of God. Along the lower margin are the Three Hierarchs Saints Basil, Gregory and John. Flanking these images on either side are the Four Evangelists, St. Ekaterina, St Mary of Egypt and Saints Cosmas and Damian, The outside left border displays the Venerable Theodore and on the right, Christopher - the Dog-Headed. The entire image overlaid with a finely crafted silver-gilt and repouse riza, Hallmarked Kazan, dated 1835, with Cyrillic makers mark T.G. and with 84 standard. 14.25 inches x 11 inches (35.7cm x 28cm).
