A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE NEW TESTAMENT TRINITY AMONG THE POWERS, 19th CENTURY. In the complex icon the New Testament Trinity is depicted at center within a ring comprised of blue faced Seraphim. On each corner of the circle are painted the symbols of the Four Evangelists. Immediately to the left and right of the circle are the mother of God and John the Forerunner. Further out still are the guardian Angels and above a group of selected saints. The central lower margin depicts the Archangel Michael (left) and the Archangel Raphael with Tobit (right) further out still on both sides are images of the Guardian Angels with a young girl and boy. The margins inscribed with prayers to the various angels (powers). A colorful icon very similar to lot #358. 21 inches x 17.5 inches (53.5cm x 44.5cm)
