A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT THEODOSIUS OF TOTMA, circa 1840. Here the venerable old monk is depicted in death. He wears the Great Skema, a monastic robe and along the border of his hood is embroidered 'The Venerable Feodosiy' The icon is held in a silver-gilt and repousse frame and silver-gilt crosses and a halo are applied directly to the icon. The frame is hallmarked Saint Petersburg, dated 1838, with silver standard 84 and Cyrillic makers mark M.B. for Mikhail Borodulin, a silversmith active in St. Petersburg from 1836-1849. 4.25 inches x 3 inches (11cm x 7.6cm).
