AN IMPOSING CARVED AND POLYCHROME WOOD FIGURAL GROUPING OF THE ASCENSION, 19TH CENTURY, SEBASTIAN ZWINK (1816-1906). Carved in high relief, at center the resurrected Christ ascending to heaven surrounded by the twelve Apostles and the Virgin Mary. The city walls of Jerusalem in the background. Carved with deep folds, cascading hair and good anatomy and retaining the original polychroming. Inscribed with signature lower right S. Zwink and contained in its original beveled wood frame. Excluding frame 28 inches x 35 inches (71 x 88.5 cm). With frame 34.5 inches x 40.25 inches (87.5 x 104.9 cm).
