A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE LIDDED BRONZE VASE, French circa 1870. Resting on a raised foot banded in acanthus leaves, the sides depicting a scene of The Battle of the Centaurs and Lapithis at the Wedding of Hippodamias, with a figural lid continuing the theme. The sides set with handles comprised of two intertwining serpents. Traces of gilt patina. Height 16 inches (40.6 cm). For similar examples see Sotheby's Paris, Lot 22, December 2003 (silvered bronze example without handles and raised lip) and Drouot Paris, February 8, 2002.
