A MASSIVE GERMAN CARVED IVORY AND GILDED SILVER MOUNTED TANKARD, 19TH CENTURY. The sides finely carved in high relief of an ancient battle scene with horses and elephants, probably depicting the battle of Zama (202BC). The flared base repoussed with rams heads, florals and fruits. The attached scroll handle with human form and the hinged lid repoussed with florals, masks and pinecone finial. Apparently unmarked.  Height 14 inches (37cm)
