A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE NEAPOLITAN POLYCHROME TERRACOTTA VIRGIN, 18TH CENTURY. Sculpted in full round with good anatomy and proportions, deep folds and flowing gown the Virgin with hands over her heart and standing atop a serpent with two winged cherubs looking on. The heads set with glass eyes and retaining a great deal of the original polychrome and set into its original wood base with beaded upper border and acanthus carved lower border. Overall height 34.5 inches (88 cm). Provenance: Congregation of Divine Providence, San Antonio, Texas.
