Lot 28
A LARGE AND FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD JOY TO ALL WHO SUFFER, CIRCA 1800. To date there is yet no consensus specifically as to the the school or locality from which these very distinctive icons were produced. The predominate use of red, unique shading and clouds, colorful highlights on earth and rock formations along with the extensive use of bold imaginary floral forms, make these type of icons easily recognizable. The offered icon, as is typical, is finely drawn and painted. The Mother of God is depicted full length at center with suffering humans gathered on both sides and angles amongst them ministering to their needs. They hold scroll with their petitions and at top center Christ, as King, delivers a blessing. In excellent condition. 17.5 inches x 15.25 inches (44.5 x 38.5 cm)
Estimate:  $1,000 - 1,500
Price Realized: $840.00
