FRANCIS FRITH & JAMES VALENTINE ALBUMEN PRINTS, SCENES OF OLD ENGLAND, CIRCA 1866. An interesting collection comprising 39 mounted albumen prints including 22 with the mark of Francis Frith (1822-1898), an additional 5 with the mark of James Valentine (1815-1879) and a further 12 unmarked or with unknown mark. Each photo or pair of photos mounted on a 10.25 x 13.75 inch card stock and with accompanying card stock album cover title page calligraphied with dedicatory inscription, “Mr. Thos. Rosevear of New York, a memento from N. Hodgson of places visited together in Old England 1866.” Consisting of exterior and interior views of noted English and Scottish landmarks, primarily cathedrals, abbeys and castles. Scenes include, Skipton Castle, Glasgow Cathedral, Ben Rhydding Village, Whitby Abbey, The Adel Church, Edinburgh, Scott Mont & Castle, Fountain’s Abbey, Ripton Minster, Canterbury Cathedral, Parish Church Leeds, Town Hall Leeds, Ilkley Church, Westminster Abbey, The Percy Shrine, Beverly, Knaresborough Castle, The Market Cross & Municipal Building Aberdeen Scotland, Choir York Minster, Choir Aisle York, Windsor Castle, Balmoral Castle, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Windows of the Five Sisters York, St. Mary’s Abbey York, York Minster, Knaresborough from the Castle Hill, Kirkstall Abbey, Bolton Abbey, Beverley Minster, Iona Cathedral, Orans Chapel, Crypt-Fountain’s Abbey, Interior-Fountain’s Abbey, Elgin Cathedral Nave and Houses of Parliament. Sizes ranging from 4.25 x 6.25 inches to 9.5 x 11.6 inches.
