A RUSSIAN ICON OF WEEP NOT FOR ME MOTHER, 19TH CENTURY. Here the Mother of God holds the body of Her Crucified son upright in a sarcophagus. The title for this icon is taken from Canticle Nine of Matins for Holy Saturday: Weep not for me, Mother, seeing in the sepulcher the son you conceived without seed in your womb-for I shall rise and be glorified…” Overlaid with an ornate silvered metal and repousse riza with attached gilded haloes. 13.5 inches x 11.3 inches (34.5 x 29 cm)
