A LARGE AND VERY FINE JAPANESE GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE FIGURE OF A KYUDO (ARCHER), MEIJI PERIOD. The extremely well sculpted and chiseled figure wearing a kimono and layered hakama each embossed and gilt with cartouches of phoenix and mum blossoms and further complimented with a gilt obi, katana and tanto depicted in a traditional “ashibumi” stance drawing a yumi with ya. Mounted on a shaped hardwood stand with bracket feet and gilt lacquered phoenix with scrolling tail. Signed on verso with gilt cartouche, height of bronze 15.5 inches (39 cm). Total height 18.75 inches (48 cm).
