A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE TIKHVIN MOTHER OF GOD, OVCHINNIKOV, 19TH CENTURY. The completely and finely painted icon with raised border (kovcheg) and retaining the original varnish coat. The right border with the Venerable Xenia. Overlaid with a spectacular silver-gilt, repousse and chased riza with cloisonné enamel haloes and corners and the garments of the Virgin and Christ child overlaid with a riza decorated with a profusion of seed pearls. Hallmarked Moscow, dated 1896 and in Cyrillic P.OVCHINNIKOV beneath the Imperial Warrant. 11.6 inches x 10.25 inches (30 x 26 cm)
