AN EXCEPTIONAL RUSSIAN ICON OF ST. JOASAPH OF BELGOROD, CIRCA 1908. At center a polished domed oval shaped mother of pearl (shell) support with a finely painted half-length image depicting the Saint in the office of Bishop, wearing an ornate miter with seed pearl decoration and icon of Christ and highly embroidered vestments. He holds a blessing cross in one hand in in the other a crosier. Set within a raised gilded oval frame amongst a field of ornate shaded enamel florals against an engraved background and framed within a raised border of cloisonné enameled flower head buds and the corners set with pearls. Hallmarked Moscow, circa 1908-1917, Cyrillic makers mark DG, probably for Dmetri Gorbunov and 84 silver standard. 7 inches x 5.75 inches (17.8 x 14.5 cm).
