A RUSSIAN ICON OF CHRIST, OVCHINNIKOV, MOSCOW CIRCA 1890. A finely painted image of Christ delivering a blessing and holding an open book of Gospels to John 13:34. Overlaid with an exquisite multi-piece silver-gilt and cloisonné enamel oklad with seed pearl riza and integral suspension loop at top, Hallmarked Moscow, c 1890 and Cyrillic makers mark of OVCHINNIKOV beneath the Imperial Warrant, 84 silver standard and backed in velvet. 3.8 inches x 3.25 inches (9.5 x 8.5 cm).
