Icons such as the offered lot were generally custom ordered as receptacles for family icons which had been passed down from earlier generations or icons that were gifted to an individual on special occasions.  The overall style, pallate and panel construction would date to the end of the 18thcentury. Based on the various subject matters one might speculate that the offered specimen was once the property of a pious monk or perhaps priest, and probably  named after St. Andre of Crete.
