A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE QUICK TO HEAR MOTHER OF GOD, MOSCOW, CIRCA 1902. At center, an icon of The Quick to Hear (Skoroposlushnitsa) Mother of God, being held by the Archangel Michael and Gabriel and venerated by the remaining Six Archangels and below a red six-winged Seraphim. The upper margin finely painted with the Deisis. Christ at center delivers a blessing and holds an open book of Gospels to Mathew 11:28, on the left the Mother of God and on the right St. John the Forerunner both turned toward Christ in adoration. The verso with vintage inscription dated February 1902. The extremely high quality, including detailing and extensive Chrysography as well as the highly stylized clouds, suggest a Moscow workshop staffed by Palekh trained artists such as that of noted Court iconographer Dikarev. 12.25 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 27 cm).
