The image of St. George was a favorite amongst the officer corps of the Imperial Russian military because he was the patron of soldiers. Icons such as the offered lot were often gifted from the parents of young officers to carry with them in battle. The coat of arms for the city of Moscow of course also displays the image of St. George slaying the dragon.
