A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE BEHEADING OF JOHN THE FORERUNNER, 16TH CENTURY. At upper right Christ sends an angel to comfort John in prison, at mid right he is lead to execution and at center he is beheaded, his head is shown in a salver below. The borders with silver basma. 12.5 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 26.5 cm). In an excellent state of preservation.
