A LARGE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD, 17TH CENTURY. A large and impressive icon, no doubt from the left side of the Deisis Tier of an iconostasis. Here Mary, the mother of Christ, turns towards her son in an attitude of prayer. She holds a scroll upon which is inscribed, “Ruler Most Gracious, Lord Jesus Christ, my son and my God, hear the prayer of your Mother for she prays for the world.” 45 inches x 13.3 inches (115.5 x 34 cm).
