A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT BARBARA, 19TH CENTURY. Here the 4th century Saint is depicted full length receiving her cross of martyrdom from Christ who also blesses her at upper left. The abbreviated enameled title plaque at top center identifies her as The Holy Great Martyr Barbara. Overlaid with an impressive repousse and chased silver-gilt riza, hallmarked Moscow, dated 1864 and with Cyrillic makers mark DO for Dmitri Orlov and with 84 silver standard. 14.25 inches x 14 inches (36 x 35.5 cm).
