A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE APPEARANCE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD TO ST. SERGEI OF RADONEZH, MOSCOW, 1835.  At center the Mother of God with Saints John the Evangelist and the Apostle Peter (left) who appeared to Saint Sergie and his disciple Micah, depicted lower right. Above them all is the Old Testament Trinity for whom Sergie would name the monastery he founded. The entire image overlaid with a heavy gilded silver, repousse and chased oklad. The robes of the Virgin overlaid with a riza of seed pearls. Oklad hallmarked Moscow, dated 1835, Cyrillic makers mark E.A for Egor Antipev. 10.5 inches x 8 inches (26.5 x 20.2 cm).
