A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE TIKHVIN MOTHER OF GOD, DMITRI ANDREEV, ST. PETERSBURG, 1845.  A unique and finely painted icon depicting the Mother of God cradling the infant Christ who holds a scroll and delivers a blessing. The borders painted with a variety of saints or subjects on the left. They include: The Appearance of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas to Georgiy Iuruish, the Guardian Angel, St. Kharlampiy, and the Venerable Vasiliy. On the right, the Venerable Antoni, St. Panteliemon, the Holy Martyr Ekaterina (Katherine) and St. Alexander Nevsky. Overlaid with an exceptionally well crafted silver-gilt, repousse and chased riza, hallmarked St. Petersburg, dated 1845, Cyrillic makers mark of Dmitri Andreev. 12.25 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 27 cm).
