Lot 115
A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE FEODOR MOTHER OF GOD WITH SELECTED SAINTS, MOSCOW, OLD BELIEVERS WORKSHOP, CIRCA 1900.  At top center within an arched reserve an image of the Feodor Mother of God, the patroness of the House of Romanov. Below a gathering of saints surrounding the Guardian Angel at center including, The Holy Konstantine, The Holy Great Martyr Barbara, The Holy Martyr Varus, The Holy Martyr Pantelimeon, The Holy Prophet Naum and the Holy Venerable Marous. The overall style of the offered icon reflects the Renaissance movement which incorporated earlier iconographic style into modern renderings. Perhaps nowhere is this as evident as the icon produced in the workshops of those noted Palekh and Mstera trained painters such as Emilianov and Gurianov both of whom enjoyed a good working relation with the Imperial family and as such, the whole of Russian aristocracy of the time. 12.25 inches x 10.25 inches (31 x 26.5 cm).
Estimate:  $1,500 - 2,000   € 1,050 - 1,400
Price Realized: $1,375.00
