A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE DOUBLE-SIDED RUSSIAN ICON, NEVYANSK, CIRCA 1800.  One side painted with the Apostles Peter and Paul beneath an image of Christ bestowing crowns of martyrdom. The other side painted with the Holy Visage held aloft by two finely painted angels and identified by the ornate, condescend, and abbreviated inscription at top as the "Not-By-Hand-Made Image of our Lord Jesus Christ." Below further inscribed "All things are committed to me by my Father, and no man knows the Son, but the Father, nor does any know the Father except the Son..." (Matthew 11:27). 21 inches x 17.75 inches (53.5 x 45 cm).
