A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF SELECTED SAINTS, MSTERA, 1900. At top center within an arched reserve, an image of the New Testament Trinity atop highly stylized gilt decorated clouds and inscribed, "Our Lord Ascended into Heaven, at the right hand of the Father." Below a gathering of four saints depicted full length, they are from left to right: the Holy Great Martyr Orestes, the Holy Great Martyr Evgeniy, the Holy Great Martyr Lavrentiy, the Holy Great Martyr Mardarius, and the Holy Great Martyr Eustratius. The vestments finely decorated with gold and with subtle gilt shading typical of Moscow workshops employing Mstera and Palekh trained painters. The wood panel with double kovcheg. 12.25 inches x 10.6 inches (31 x 27 cm).
