A LARGE ART NOUVEAU RUSSIAN ICON OF THE ASCENSION, CIRCA 1900. Here Christ is seen at center rising to heaven in a circle of light as the Mother of God and the eleven Apostles look on. The gilt background incised with a repeating Fleur-de-lis pattern, and the border ornately incised and painted in the Neo-Byzantine/Art Nouveau style. The upper border with oval cartouche inscribed with the title "VOZNESENIE GOSPODNE" – The Ascension of the Lord. 19 inches x 24 inches (48.4 x 61cm).
