A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE MARTYRDOM OF SAINT DMITRIY OF THESSALONIKI, 19TH CENTURY. At top center Christ delivers a blessing while below the emperor watches as Dmitriy is put on the wheel as well as apparently a whole gambit of other torturing techniques displayed near him. He is also depicted as the solider at center holding a spear and his martyrs cross. The upper border with inscription identifying the subject as “IMAGE OF THE SUFFERING OF THE HOLY GREAT MARTYR DEMETRIUS OF THESSALONICA." 14 inches x 12.25 inches (35.5 x 31 cm).
