A LARGE IMPERIAL RUSSIAN PERIOD SILVER GILT AND ENGRAVED EASTER EGG, 5TH ARTEL, MOSCOW 1908-1917. The body overall engraved with a repeating star pattern and the front set with a cross and opening to reveal brightly gilded wings and at center a painted icon of the Tikhvin Mother of God, probably later, executed in an oval reserve. The finial with integral suspension loop and at the base a folding locking latch device. The verso engraved with the abbreviated Slavonic Easter greeting "XB." Hallmarked Moscow, 1908-1917, maker's mark of the 5th Artel 5A, and 84 silver standard. Height 5 inches (12.7 cm).
