A VERY FINE NORWEGIAN SECRETARY CABINET WITH ROSEMALING, CIRCA 1850, IN THE TELEMARK STYLE. The large exterior paneled door with arched top and inscribed "A.A.F. 1850" below a raised carved panel scene of a military equestrian figure on a cream ground, the case surmounted by a carved double scroll broken pediment with dentil band and turned finial. The door opening to reveal on verso an additional horse mounted military figure and inscribed "Johanes Annonsen Fodt den 18 Desember 1848" within a grain painted surround, the interior with fitted drawers and compartments including a secret latching hidden compartment. Later suspension mounts for hanging. Height 45.5 inches (115.5 cm), width 29.5 inches (75 cm), and depth 10.75 inches (27 cm).
