A VERY FINE 18TH CENTURY NORWEGIAN BENT AND CARVED WOOD PUZZLE BOX, DATED 1782. The oval box with cover incorporating a complex locking mechanism of 15 rotating pins and three figural head turn pieces surmounted with a tri-corn hat (each of which align to release the cover lock) above a bent oval wood base, carved all over in relief with mystical figures, symbols and Norwegian lions with halberds, with the inscription "JOD Anno Dominn MDCCL 1782 7C C7." Length 7 inches (17.7 cm). Height 4.75 inches (12 cm).
