A SIGNED AND DATED RUSSIAN ICON, VASILY PESCHEKHONOV, ST. PETERSBURG, 1862. On the left an image of the Holy Princess Olga and on the right the Holy Michael, Bishop of Sinnada, executed on an ornately incised ground of interwoven strapwork. The vestments embellished with gold and jewels and with typical Peschekhonov style shading, the borders ornately painted in faux enamel and exhibiting overall linear shading also typical of icons from the Peschekhonov workshop. Signed with abbreviated name lower right in Cyrillic, VASIL., dated 1862, and verso with old, faint dedicatory inscription. 8.75 inches x 7 inches (22.3 x 18 cm).
