A LARGE RUSSIAN ICON OF ST. NICHOLAS, 19TH CENTURY. Nicholas is depicted here in the traditional form, as bishop, delivering a blessing with his right hand and holding a book of gospels in his left hand open to Luke 6:17. Overlaid with an extensive ornate and assembled silvered repousse riza with attached brilliant halo. Together with kiot (shadow box). The large size of this icon would suggest it was once held in a shrine, small chapel or church. Icon 20.25 inches x 16.75 inches (51.5 x 42.5 cm). Overall with kiot 25.5 inches x 22 inches (65 x 56 cm)
