A LARGE RUSSIAN ICON OF CHRIST-THE LORD ALMIGHTY, CIRCA 1890. Here Christ is shown delivering a blessing and holding an open book of Gospels Matthew 11:28. In Greek this composition of Christ is called PANTOCRATOR translated into Russian as VSEDERZHITEL, English- ALMIGHTY. It is taken form the book of Revelation (1:8) “I am the Alpha and the Omega says the Lord, Who Is, Who Was, and Who Is To Come, the Almighty. The background and borders are intricately and ornately incised and painted to simulate cloisonné enameling. Together with a large imposing glazed kiot with elaborately carved gilt-wood liner. Icon 14.25 inches x 12.25 inches (36.4 x 31 cm). Overall including kiot 29.5 inches x 22.75 inches (74.5 x 58 cm)
