A RUSSIAN ICON OF SELECTED SAINTS, MSTERA, CIRCA 1890. At top center within an arched reserve Christ holds an open book of Gospels and delivers a blessing. On the left below is the Guardian Angel and on the right the Holy Martyr Dmitry, each identified by the inscription above their head. Between them buried up to his waist with a prayer book and candle before him IИОАНН ПЕЧЕРСКИЙ МНОГОСТРАДАЛЬНЫЙ-John the Much-Suffering. The borders ornately decorated in faux enamel. The offered icon is very likely from one of the popular Moscow workshop producing icons displaying these particular stylistic elements such as Gurianov, Dikarev, and others. 10.5 inches x 8.75 inches (27 x 22 cm).
