A RUSSIAN ICON BLESSING CRUCIFIX, KALUGA, 1812. The wooden eight-sided cross painted with the crucified Christ beneath God the Father and the cross beam ends terminating with images of the Mother of God (left) and the Apostle John (right). Beneath the feet of Christ are displayed implements of the Passion and the skull of Adam. Encased in a two-piece gilded silver repoussé and chased riza, the verso heavily repoussed with flower forms. Hallmarked Kaluga, dated 1812, and with 84 silver standard. Height 15 inches (38 cm). Width 7 inches (18 cm).
