A PAIR OF CARPATHO-UKRAINE “HUSTUL” CARVED WOODEN BLESSING CROSSES, CIRCA 1875-1900. The first being a thick wooden cross carved on both sides from a single piece of wood. The front carved with the crucified Christ surrounded with medallions carved with other unidentified figures. At the center of the verso is a low relief figure carved figure of the Mother of God with the infant Christ above a figure of an Imperial Saint wearing crown and similar to the front, surrounded by medallions with other unidentified figures. 17 inches x 7 inches (43 x 18 cm). Together with a smaller, more finely carved signed and dated cross. The front carved with the crucified Christ above the date 1874. The verso carved with the Virgin and child flanked by cherubs and above a reserve carved in Slavonic with the name “Evano Stamor.” 9.5 inches x 3.25 inches (24 x 8 cm).
