AN ICON OF METROPHAN OF VORONEZH, PROBABLY SOUTHWEST RUSSIA, 19TH CENTURY. Naturalistically painted within an oval reserve, here Metrophan appears as a bishop delivering a blessing and holding a crosier. The borders colorfully painted with blossoms. He is identified by the inscription above his head as, "The Holy Metrophan Bishop of Voronezh." 22 inches x 18.25 inches (56 x 46 cm). (Unillustrated)
